Amanda Gooding

Amanda Gooding, PhD, ABPP is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and board-certified clinical neuropsychologist at UC San Diego. After completing her doctorate in clinical psychology at Fordham University she completed a neuropsychology postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Dr. Gooding is passionate about mentorship of future clinician-scholars, and she is a clinical supervisor for neuropsychology practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows.

 

In her clinical practice, Dr. Gooding specializes in the assessment and treatment of individuals with a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders – including epilepsy, brain tumors, stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, movement disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She also works with the UC San Diego Center for Transplantation to provide psychological evaluations for patients being considered for liver, heart, kidney, or pancreas transplantation.

Dr. Gooding’s research interests are focused on improving postoperative cognitive and functional outcomes in individuals who have had brain surgery, as well as advancing intraoperative brain mapping techniques. She has also presented and published on investigations related to cross-cultural neuropsychology, trainee professional development, and gender disparities in academic medicine.

Dr. Gooding is a member of many professional organizations and she has held service and leadership positions within the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, the American Psychological Association, the Hispanic Neuropsychological Society, the International Neuropsychological Society, and the National Association of Neuropsychology. She previously served as the Co-Lead for the Gender Issues Subcommittee of the UCSD Department of Psychiatry’s Diversity Committee, as the Chair of the Society for Clinical Neuropsychology’s Early Career Neuropsychologist Committee, and as the Secretary and Treasurer for the Women in Health Sciences (WiHS) Committee.
